this bolt hit quite close to where i was standing... i decided to end the night right after i took this.... as soon as i walked underneath my patio awning, the rain went from a slight drizzle to a violent downpoor...

The more massive an object is, the more gravity it contains, which explains why it is harder to get ketchup out of the bigger glass ketchup bottles. More importantly it is also why a big screen tv collects more dust than a hoover.
very nice. did you have a reason to be ready looking at that spot? just out of curiosity, how many did it take to get this one?
but I wouldn't recommend being a lightning photographer, especially if you use a metal tripod.
this was the last shot of 15. i basically walked outside, then walked right back inside....
this shot is the full frame. just out of frame, twards the bottom, is my next-door neighbors house...
the lightning here is actually quite predictable. it basically walks like legs across the valley floor.. all you have to do is time your shots to a specific area of the thunderhead, mostly where youve previously seen a sizeable bolt... 30 seconds later and BAM...
i think lightning photography is all about managing your risk.... its kinda like wearing a seatbelt in a car.. you follow the rules... you stay reletively safe.

A brand new monthly article which showcases some of deviantART's finest equine artists, as well as recognizing the lesser-known but equally talented ones. Interviews, helpful tutorials and features can all be found here too! I hope you enjoy it.
The idea of this contest is to set you up completely blind with a mythical being - from any world culture - and turn you loose to come up with a deviation based around it!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
